The Basics of Football

Football is a game in which teams of 11 players play against each other. The ball is kicked with the players’ feet. The game is played on a rectangular field called a pitch. The game is known as association football. It’s played by teams in many parts of the world. Depending on the team, the game may also be called soccer.

There are many different positions in football, each with their own unique role. Offense players try to run with the ball or pass it forward as far as the opposing team’s end zone. Defensive players try to stop the other team from advancing the ball. Besides defense, special teams also play an important role, including kickers, punters, and punters.

A touchdown in football is similar to a conversion in rugby, with the exception that it is scored at the opponent’s 3-yard line. This goal is achieved by kicking the ball over the goal posts or over the crossbar. A touchdown is equal to two points or an extra point. The offensive team may also convert a touchdown into another score by scoring a field goal.

Each team has four downs. If they fail to move 10 yards in four downs, they turn the ball over to the defense. The offensive team is then awarded another set of four downs. The goal is to gain 10 yards on the next play. A touchdown is scored when the offensive team advances the ball into the end zone or kicks the ball through the goalposts. The winning team is the one with the most points.
